Training Microwave Link Planning & Workshop
INTRODUCTION

Participants of this course will be able to plan microwave point-to-point links using software planning tool Pathloss 5.0, including ability to analyse data from path surveys, create respective profile data and decide upon antenna heights, calculate Performance and Availability percentages of the link and optimise them with respect to the ITU-R objectives as well as cost-effectiveness.

General Knowledge of Microwave Radio Communications Engineering Concepts.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
  • Understanding General Program Operation and detailed functions of all the Pathloss software Modules.
  • Understanding the meanings of different types of terrain data types, Geographic defaults, Datum and Ellipsoids, and their selection criteria
  • Carrying out basic procedures to create terrain profiles from primary and secondary terrain data files.
  • Carrying out antenna center line calculations and determine the minimum antenna heights which will result in acceptable diffraction loss at the lowest expected value of K with Pathloss diffraction Module
  • Determining the optimal space diversity antenna spacing to avoid simultaneous signal nulls (Reflection Module)
  • Generating Link Budgets and understand the significance of multipath propagation reliability and analyze microwave links
  • Understanding and apply fade probability models and how to use the in Pathloss link predictions
  • Calculating diffraction loss of a radio wave propagating over irregular terrain using a number of diffraction models supported by Pathloss program
  • Conducting Interference calculations down to the composite threshold degradation of the victim receivers due to multiple interferers.
